How to use the exam timer
- Pick your exam length, or type your own reading and writing time.
- Press Start. The big clock counts down the reading time, then switches to the writing time.
- You get a sound when reading time ends, a warning when your chosen number of minutes is left, and a clear message when time is up.
- Use Display to dim the numbers or hide the seconds if the ticking distracts you. The last minutes always show at full brightness.
The timer counts from the clock, so it stays accurate if your phone sleeps or you reload the page. While it is running it asks your browser to keep the screen on, where that is supported.
It is a practice tool and not the official exam clock. After you finish, mark your paper and see where your scores could take your predicted ATAR.
Questions
How long is reading time in a VCE exam?
Most VCAA end-of-year exams give 15 minutes of reading time before the writing time starts. The writing time depends on the subject, so check the cover page of your exam or the VCAA exam timetable and set the timer to match.
Does the timer keep going if I lock my phone or close the tab?
Yes. It counts from the clock rather than ticking in the background, so when you come back it shows the right time. Warning sounds only play while the page is open.
Can I make the numbers less distracting?
Yes. Open Display to dim the numbers with the brightness slider, or hide the seconds so they stop ticking over.
Is this the official exam clock?
No. In a real exam, the supervisor's announcements and the room clock are what count.
Is the exam timer free, and do I need an account?
It is free and needs no account. Your settings are kept in your own browser and are not sent anywhere.
